Carrick facing three-week injury lay-off

Carrick injured.

Michael Carrick is facing three-weeks on the sidelines after hobbling off during United's 1-1 draw with Newcastle on Sunday. The midfielder has sustained an ankle injury and has already pulled out of the England squad for Wednesday's friendly with the Czech Republic. He also looks set to miss United’s encounters with Portsmouth and Zenit St Petersburg.

Carrick limped off after just 25 minutes and was replaced by John O'Shea as United struggled to a 1-1 draw with Kevin Keegan's Barcodes.

He'll play no part in England's friendly on Wednesday - and could also miss the trip to Fratton Park next Monday and the Uefa Super Cup clash with Zenit on the Friday evening.

Carrick's injury means the former Spurs star joins Sir Alex Ferguson's long-list of absentees. Meanwhile, we are still waiting for news of Ryan Giggs' hamstring pull which could also make him a doubt for next week's games.
