Ronaldo saga goes on as Sneijder opposes move

SELL HIM !
By Chris, July 17 2008
The Cristiano Ronaldo saga rumbled on as the bulk of the Manchester United squad jet off to Africa. Conflicting newspaper reports suggest a mixture of United agreeing to a £68million move; and the Glazer family refusing to sanction any deal whatsoever. The only concrete news comes from Madrid midfielder Wesley Sneijder – who doesn’t want his club to sign Ronaldo.

As Manchester United jet off to South Africa for the start of their pre-season tour, the future of want-away winger Cristiano Ronaldo is still casting a huge shadow over the club.

ManUtdWeb has called on the club to cash-in on the highly-paid winger and use the proceeds, rumoured to be some £68million, on two or three world class additions to the squad.

With the fans growing increasingly disillusioned with the winger's behaviour, any Old Trafford future would be tricky for the Portugal star.

There remains no concrete news on the player's future. Ronaldo has made no secret of his desire to join Real Madrid, the Spanish club want him to sign and MUFC have, thus far, suggested that the player is going nowhere.

However, numerous reports in the Spanish press suggest that the Red Devils are gradually coming round to the idea of selling their 42-goal ace to Real. Such speculation has been denied by sources close to the Glazer family - but, once again, nothing has come from the horse's mouth.

Carlos Queiroz's recent departure has added fuel to fire. Ronaldo enjoyed a superb relationship with United's former assistant - and his exit means the winger has lost a key ally at Old Trafford.

Our latest poll, as we write, shows that a majority of United fans believe the player cannot have a future at United. He wants to go, the fans want him to go - but do the Real Madrid players want him?

Wesley Sneijder, Madrid's hard-working midfielder, doesn't think so.

"It would be bad for the dressing room if he gets a much higher salary than the rest of the squad. It is not important to me, but I know that other team-mates would not like that at all."

He added: "This side does not need new signings. The squad is strong enough and this season we believe we can do more."

Ronaldo, who has escaped to Los Angeles for the time being, is currently recovering from ankle surgery. The situation about his future remains as clear as mud - but, following Sneijder's outburst, is a move to Real Madrid still a "dream" for the player?
