MUFC table £7million bid for want-away Owen?

Owen to MUFC?
By Chris, May 13 2008
Reports are circulating the media that Manchester United have tabled a surprise £7million bid for Michael Owen. The former Scouse star has struggled to settle down at Newcastle and has seen his progress hampered by a series of injuries. Speculation suggests that informal talks have taken place between the two clubs with Sir Alex Ferguson keen to bring the England forward to Old Trafford.

Owen's future at St.James' Park has never been certain - and reports during the week that the striker may have to take a wage-cut have fuelled speculation about his future.

A move to Old Trafford may seem an unlikely one for the former Liverpool man - but the media claim that United are lining up a £7million bid for the forward and Kevin Keegan may be forced to let Owen go.

The 28-year-old has only started 37 league games since making a £16million move to Tyneside almost three years ago. He has been constantly linked with a move away from the North West - and United are apparently set to offer the player a chance to lease new life into his career.

There is no doubt that the Red Devils are in the market for a new forward. Louis Saha could well leave the club, whilst a permanent move for Carlos Tevez is not yet certain. Therefore, some fresh attacking talent looks certain to arrive over the summer - but a move for Owen would certainly raise a few eyebrows at ManUtdWeb Towers.
