Reds win Manchester Senior Cup

Scored first goal
By Chris, May 13 2008
Little over twenty-four hours after the 2-0 win at Wigan, Manchester United’s second-string secured yet more silverware for the football club. Late strikes from Danny Welbeck and Rodrigo Possebon were enough to secure a 2-0 win for United against Bolton - bringing the Manchester Senior Cup trophy back to Old Trafford!

Brian McClair's United reserves were below their usual best but did enough to sweep aside Bolton.

The Old Trafford faithful were treated to a largely uninspiring contest - with neither side creating enough clear-cut chances. Chris Eagles was the most familiar name on show for the home side.

Welbeck opened the scoring eleven minutes from time, whilst Possebon put the result beyond doubt with an injury-time strike.

The Trotters had gone down to 10-men on 87 minutes with Rob Sissions sent to the stands after picking up two bookable offences.

MUFC XI: Zieler; Gray, Chester, Eckersley, Cleverley; Barnes, Hewson, Possebon, S Evans; Welbeck, Eagles.
Substitutes not used: Amos, Fagan, Macheda, James, Drinkwater.
