Ronaldo nets three more trophies on Reds booze-up

Champions!
By Chris, May 12 2008
Manchester United celebrated winning a seventeenth league championship with their end of year awards dinner. Predictably, Cristiano Ronaldo was the big winner of the night as he picked up three gongs to his ever-growing tally of accolades. Meanwhile, there was also success for youngsters Danny Welbeck and Richard Eckersley.

Ronaldo has already won the PFA Player of the Year award and also the Football Writers' crown.

He has now added three more trophies to his collection - after picking up a hat-trick of awards at MUFC's annual presentation evening. It was the perfect way to celebrate the league title and a 31st league goal that matched Alan Shearer's Premier League strike record.

Ronny picked up the Player of the Year trophy, the Players' Player of the Year trophy and also the Goal of the Season award. His superb free-kick against Portsmouth was considered to be the best strike of United's season thus far.

Eckersley won the Reserve Team award, whilst the highly-rated Welbeck got the nod as Young Player of the Year.

Sir Alex Ferguson's post-ceremony interview, where he covered the problem of team selection for the Champions League final, would suggest that plenty of booze was consumed by all!

Congratulations to all the winners' - and let's just hope that United can secure one more success this season as we travel to Moscow on May 21st.
