By Andrew Nixon March 19 2004
The league leaders may be wondering why they did not apply for the Nationwide Conference next season, as they produced another excellent performance to leave Vauxhall in the danger zone at the foot of the table.

Hucknall Show Their Class

Bad form on the road continued for Vauxhall. Just 1 win in the last 14 away games is one of the main reasons The Motormen lie just above the relegation zone.

Vauxhall created chances early on at a very cold Watnall Road. There early pressure was rewarded with two corners. Unfortunately from those set pieces no one challenged the goalie Pettinger and two easy crosses were dealt with comfortbaly.

The deadlock was broken and it was the league leaders that took the early advantage. Andy Todd collected the ball on the left and eased past his marker before cutting into the area and finding the net from about 12 yards.

After 10 minutes the hosts could of found themselves two up. Danny Bacon shown good work down the left before setting up Gary Ricketts whose shot went just wide of Dittmar's goal. As The Motormen picked up all the loose balls in midfield they were unable to break down a stubbon Hucknall defence. John McCarthy, the scorer in the cup against Vauxhall, had a free kick well gathered by the Vauxhall keeper.

Half Time: Hucknall Town 1-0 Vauxhall Motors

Two minutes after the interval and The Motormen should have been level. An excellent cross from Robbie Lawton was met by the head of an unmarked Terry Fearns whose header went wide of the post.

For peroids of this half there were alot of corners for both teams but not one of them caused any trouble for either side. Just before the hour mark and it was 2-0. Barry Miller's bullet header found the roof of the net as McCarthy provided and excellent cross from a corner kick on. 57 minutes.

Town started to show their class and why they are top of league. Andy Todd almost capitilised on a scuffed clearance from Tony Dittmar as his shot went wide. Hucknall out played Vauxhall all over the pitch for the next ten miutes and played very good football.

Peter Cumiskey had the only chacne for the visitors in the second half with his long range effort from a free kick going well over the bar. As Vauxhall tried there best it was just not good enough on the night. Hucknall deserved winners as Vauxhall enter a relegation dog fight.
