Motors Back To Winning Ways

The Motormen managed to put the last result at Moss Lane behind them and played extremely well and deserve all the credit for the very important three points.

Vauxhall got off to the best possible start they could of wished for when after just 45 seconds they were infront. Peter Cumiskey's good run down the left and an even better cross was met by the head of the Motors skipper Kevin Lynch whose well guided effort gave Welsby no chance, but The Motormen the early advantage.

The home side were looking very comfortable on the ball and were constantly cutting out any attempts of a Lancaster equaliser. Vauxhall had a couple of half chances themselves but none that caused any more problems for Welsby in the City goal.

Motors built on their one goal cussion after five minutes when Carl Macauley's through ball fell into the path of Terry Fearns, who at the first attempt saw his shot saved. However, he reacted quicker than anyone else as he pounced on the loose ball and found the back of the net. City defender Paul Sparrow could do nothing as it beat the goalkeeper and also his out-stretched leg on the goal line.

The visitors put together there first real attack of the game and made the Vauxhall keeper, Tony Dittmar, produce a fine save from Neil Prince as he struck his shot from all of about 25 yards.

Vauxhall responded well and could of put the game vitually safe. Good passing movement from Robertson, Cumiskey and Nesbitt that led to the ball being played to Terry Fearns who struck his shot just wide of the post. By his standards he would of seen that as golden opportunity to claim his brace.

Half Time: Vauxhall Motors 2-0 Lancaster City

This half proved not as lively as the first half. Lancaster played the better for the majority of the second period as probably you would expect as manager Phil Wilson attempts to guide City up the table.

The first chance of the half fell to Lancaster's Ryan Elderton whose great effort was matched by the Vauxhall youngster Tony Dittmar after there was confusion in the box that led to a goal mouth scramble.

The Giant Axe outfit managed to pull one back in the 71st minute when former Vauxhall striker Jamie Hughes, who spent the beggining of the season at Rivacre Park, found the finishing touch from close range as Tony Sullivan's cross caused problems for Vauxhall. Prince made sure he was first to the ball before beating Dittmar and setting up Hughes to put the scores at 2-1.

With 20 minutes remaining every Vauxhall fan wanted the final whistle to go as they thought Lancaster might go on and get something out of the match. Instead it was Vauxhall who played well in the last stages of the game. Robbie Lawton played in Terry Fearns whose shot was well saved by Welsby.

Vauxhall managed to hold on until the end and the Vauxhall recent revival continues under Owen Brown.
