Loftus Road - 1 Year On |
| After a stalemate first outting, and a trip to Maccesfield's Mose Rose
awited the winners of this Tuesday evening clash. Alvin McDonald claimed before the match
as long as his side stayed level for the first 20 minutes they will have a chance.
And Vauxhall played just as well as their professional hosts created chances
and defending well. Unfortunally Vauxhall never made the 20 minute target
falling behind on 18 minutes, Padula managed to wriggle through the
usually reliable Brazier, Haddrell and Collins and Thompson finished it
with a superb curling shot to beat young Andy Ralph.
The 5,336 fans at Loftus Road must of thought it was going to brak the spirits of the young part-timers. Even Alvin McDonald claimed the response from his squad was unbelievable. Fearnsy caused problems inside the QPR box, and when the ball bounced free and captain Phil Brazier, who captained Liverpool to the FA Youth Cup seven years prior, smashed home to send the two hundred travelling fans into frenzy. Vauxhall pushed for a historic winner, but cross after cross was somehow scrambled away, Cumiskey and Fearns were playing tremendously well, but failed to break down this stubbon full time defence. QPR did have chances altough highly restricted due to the form of Brazier, Collins and Haddrell. Half Time: QPR 1-1 Vauxhall Motors Vauxhall were 45 minutes away from knowing their FA Cup feat. The competition known for giant killings, could Vauxhall grab their five minutes of fame? The second half was full of squandered opportunities and no goals. Vauxhall's FA Cup dream had a further 30 minutes of extra time. With that too being goaless, Vuaxhall had taken their mighty opponents the whole distance in this first round tie. Vauxhall had to hold their nerve in front of the noisy Loft. First up was ex-Chelsea star Paul Furlong against ex-Tranmere trainee Andy Ralph, and it was the 19 year old Welder who came off on top palming away the spot kick. First Vauxhall spot kick was usually reliable and on form Peter Cumiskey who made no mistakes from 12 yards. Fearns, Nesbitt and Lynch all converted from the spot, as well as Thompson, Palmer and Langley for QPR. Down to penalty number nine. Karl Connolly had to score to send it to sudden death, miss and Macclesfield would host Vauxhall. Every Motors and QPR players, staff and fans all waiting to see where the kick ends up, in a split second Connolly had put it wide Vauxhall were through to the second round proper! |
