Bad Form Continues

Owen Brown completed an unwanted hat-trick this Saturday. Losing to Alfreton condemned Vauxhall to lose league games against all three newly promoted teams. Vauxhall's attempts of breaking Alfreton's unbeaten home record failed miserably as a run of bad results got worse when they stummbled to a 5-1 defeat.

It took just eight minutes for the home side to break the deadlock when good passing down the left channel saw winger Chris Dolby firing home at the near post that deflected off Craig Robinson and into the back of the net.

Five minutes later, you could just feel it wasn't going to be Vauxhall's day when Alfreton doubled their lead. This time it came from the right as Chris Bettney struck a shot that once again took a deflection before going past Vauxhall keeper Matt Higgins

With fifteen minutes remaining in the first half, Craig Robinson headed past his own goalkeeper after the ball had came of the bar. A couple of deflections and and own goal summed up a dismal Vauxhall first half performance.

Half Time: Alfreton Town 3-0 Vauxhall Motors

After the interval, any hopes of Vauxhall pulling one back was dashed, when on 57 minutes the game was wrapped up, when a quick a free kick from Mike Godber went straight into the back of the net as Vauxhall lost concentration just when it mattered.

Ten minutes later it got worse for The Motormen. Ian Robinson just appeared on-side according to the linesman, who then was in on goal and slotted home number 5.

With virtually the last kick of the game Peter Cumiskey scored a consolation and Vauxhall languish in 15th place in the league.
