Matt's The Way To Do It |
| Owen Brown took one step to replacing Andy Ralph by bringing
in young keeper Matt Higgins on loan from Macclesfield Town for one month.
Higgins,19, played at Rivacre Park in the summer friendly between the two clubs on 26th July, Matt was only beaten by a Peter Cumiskey spot kick as The Silkmen strolled to a 5-1 victory with the fifth coming from the head of ex-Motorman Matt Haddrell. But with the arrival Boaz Myhill in the summer from Bradford has limited the youngsters opportunities and dropped him to third in the pecking order behind Myhill and Steve Wilson. Matt came through the ranks at his boyhood club Macclesfield and made a number of appearances in the second string last term, he even made the bench for two senior against Rushden & Diamonds and Darlington. Matt told the clubs official web-site shortly after agreeing to the move, "I'm delighted to be going on loan to get a bit of first-team experience. "I played there in the friendly and watched them here in the cup game and they are of a very good standard. It will be great experience for me to get these games under my belt." Higgins started his first game in the local derby last Saturday against Runcorn, the score finished one a piece and ended the run of four straight defeats. He is favourite to start tonights match against North West Counties outfit Woodley Sports in the 2nd round of the Cheshire Senior Cup. Woodley are currently flying high in their league, and beat Stockport County in the first round of this competition, and with Witton Albion beating both Macclesfield Town and Crewe Alexandra respectively in this competition the underdogs are not to be underestimated. Owen Brown has also signed former Liverpool U17 and U19 star Brian McIlroy, the pacey winger come striker,21, re-joined Owen Brown this week after a year with Newton AFC. McIlroy was also in Saturdays squad against Runcorn although never appeared, he will be hoping to tonight. Brian has also had a brief spell at Altrincham last year. Also with ex-Liverpool team-mate David Chambers they failed to earn full-time contracts with Torquay United last year, despite both players being instrumental in clinching the U-17 and U-19 titles for The Reds youth. Both players will be warmly welecomed by players, staff and fans alike, and hope they enjoy their stay at Rivacre Park. |
