FA Cup Latest

The FA Cup draw hasn't been kind to Vauxhall this season, the fourth qualifying round has proved to be no different. Firstly Vauxhall had to host Southport who were one of the biggest teams at the stage, and after a great team performance The Motormen came through to win 3-1, in what proved to be Alvin McDonald's last match in charge before he moved to Northwich. A trip across the Penines to face Bradford Park Avenue was next on the FA Cup agenda, but had to settle for a draw at the Horsefall. If they can come through the replay against BPA, they face a trip to either Runcorn or Dr Martens leaders Nuneaton Borough, who also face each other in a replay on Tuesday evening.

Nuneaton are leading Steve Claridge's Weymouth in the Dr Martens league after being relegated last season and prove difficult opponents for any team at this stage. Runcorn may be the easier on paper, but this is the FA Cup league form and club status goes out the window, for any one who remembers Ronnie Radford's winner to knock Newcastle out the FA Cup in '77, or Wrexham beating Arsenal in the early ninties, as well as now Conference outfit Shreswbury beating Everton last season and of course Vauxhall Motors beating QPR in last seasons first round. Runcorn are currntly 15th in the league four points behind Vauxhall, the last three matches between the two clubs have produced 14 goals and all but one for Vauxhall.

Local team Chester City face a difficult trip to Croft Park, to face Blyth, Vauxhall fans will remember Terry Fearns scoring five there earlier this campaign.

Alvin's new team will play Halifax Town at Wincham Park.

The fourth round of qualifying is scheduled for 25th October.
