Half-Decent Pubs Suggest others Here The Hole i' the Wa is
situated on the High Street just across from Woolworth's, and the
entrance to it is literally a hole in the wall. However once you are
inside it is anything but small. The beer is reasonably priced, there
is a reasonably sized bar menu, with very good prices, and the food is
to be recommended. There are a couple of TV screens and Sky Sports is
normally on. Leaving by the rear entrance, you find yourself in a
narrow lane, turn left and roughly 100 yards along the lane on the left
is a firm favourite of mine.
The Stag is just off
the High Street in Bank Street is The Stag, definitely a pub for men,
though you will find the odd woman. There is a fair selection of beer,
though no food menu that I know about. The Stag has a pool table and
darts board as well as a tv, again I'm not sure about Sky. The beer is
again excellent, and The Stag is handy for a couple of nearby bookies.
Bank Street is easy to find, as it is just down from the Steeple.
Heading
North up the High Street, turn down Buccleuch St and follow the road
right across the bridge. You are now within a stones throw of
Palmerston. There are a handful of pubs here including The Salutation,
and The Spread Eagle. The Salutation is another "man's", but serves a
good pint and has a pool table and tv. These pubs are also in close
proximity to a bookies. |
