Corkerhill 2-3 AS Airdrie

Airdrie moved into the 5th round of the Scottish amateur cup with a replay victory over West of Scotland side Corkerhill.

Major changes from the 1-1 draw at Broomfield due to a variety of reasons saw Edgar,Cooper, Lindsay, Neil Pardoe and Ross Graham absent from the starting 11. Burton, Hetherington, Capaldi, Layden and  Scott Graham came into the side whilst coach MacFarlane took a place on the bench with McPake and an Injured kenny Pardoe.

It was a sense of deja vu for Airdrie after a bright start, which could have saw the home side reduced to 10 men as early as the 2nd minute, Airdrie fell behind at Corkerhill's first venture forward, the striker getting a bit of luck and smashing it past Rowan as airdrie failed to clear the ball. In the earlier incident Gray was hauled down as he raced through with just the keeper to beat by the  last defender but the referee waved play on. Airdrie had a lot of the ball and were working Corkerhill's backline throughout the first half and that hard work was rewarded on 37 minutes as, Similar to the first goal, Gray got a break of the ball in the box as Corkerhill failed to clear there lines and he turned it past the keeper from 8 yards out.

HT 1-1

Airdrie flew out the blocks in the second half and after as et play Slevin picked out Gray in the box and he slammed his second of the match past the keeper who could only help it on it's way. Airdrie took further control on the hour as a pass from Layden found Adams and he jinked past the last defender and stuck away his chance to give Airdrie a stong 3-1 lead. Corkerhill got a lifeline with 15 minutes left as a mishit shot from long range somehow found it's way into the Airdrie box and the striker took it round Rowan and put it into the net though as Airdrie were waiting for an offside call which didn't come. Shaw had to go off injured and MacFarlane took his place and he helped Airdrie defend from the front as they saw off anything Corkerhill could throw at them. A great victory and special mention for Capatain Stuart Smith who's display was outstanding as he lead the team by example, great goals also from the two forwards who have been working very hard recently and an accomplished performance from the defence.
