EK Accies 0-5 AS Airdrie

Airdrie made four changes from Saturday’s side with Clark on call, Hetherington and Hughes absent and Shaw with a knock. They were replaced by Cooper, Brady, Smith and Capaldi. Airdrie took control of this cup tie from kick off, 6 seconds on the clock as Lindsay caught the keeper napping and scored from the half way line as Gray and Capaldi took centre. Ten minutes into the game and Lindsay made it 2, Brady and Capaldi worked an opening down the right and the latter’s cross was palmed away by the home keeper, Neil Pardoe retrieved the ball on the left and his superb cross was met by Lindsay who flicked a header past the keeper from 8 yards. Number 3 arrived shortly after as Lindsay played a long ball out of defence into the channel for Gray who made for the box before turning the defender and curling the ball past the keeper and in off the far post. Airdrie made it four before the half was out, Capaldi was upended at the edge of the box and Lindsay clipped the free kick into the danger area, Edgar challenged the defender but he could only head into the path of Cooper who had a simple task of nodding home from close range. Half time 0-4 Second half was a quieter affair as Airdrie sat back Accies tried there best to get a foot in the game but Rowan had little work to do as the defence mopped up most of the attacks. Shaw replaced Brady on 65 minutes and a 5th goal arrived with 20 minutes play left as Lindsay grabbed a third. Capaldi was again brought crashing to the ground and Neil Pardoe swung another pinpoint delivery into the edge of the 6 yard box where Lindsay was unmarked to power a header past the keeper to wrap up the scoring. Airdrie threw on young McPake for Edgar for some match experience and Scanlon replaced Capaldi up front for the last ten. A comfortable win in the end and a good win away from home at that take's us to the top of group 7 with 3 games to play in the League Cup. An excellent performance from Lindsay ably backed up by his team mates; Gray worked the channels all night long and was a great outlet. Defence having a good solid start with two clean sheets in two games. MOM Scott Lindsay RowanEdgar Cooper Slevin S.Graham Brady Smith Lindsay N.Pardoe Gray Capaldi Shaw for Brady (65)McPake for Edgar (75)Scanlon for Capaldi (80)
