AS Airdrie 3-2 Clydebank United
Airdrie got a win under there belts at a windy Hamilton Palace. Gray, Capaldi and Scott came back in to the starting line up in place of Edgar, Clark and R.Graham.
A bright and even start to the game saw Capaldi having a couple of efforts on goal but not enough to trouble the Bankies keeper. For the away side a wind assisted cross hit Rowan’s bar before bouncing to safety. On 22 minutes Airdrie were awarded a penalty as a defender handled in the box, a tad harsh but very similar to one Scott conceded against Tynecastle on the opening day, these things even themselves out they say! Kenny Pardoe confidently dispatched the kick in to the roof of the net. Airdrie suffered a blow on 40 minutes as Scott came off with a hamstring injury, Ross Graham getting the nod to replace the full back. Only 2 minutes later Clydebank were back in the match as another wind assisted cross gave Rowan problems at the back post, the keeper got a punch to the ball but bizarrely the spin on the ball took it into the net to make it 1-1 at the break.
Second half and there was no let up from the wind but both teams got on with things as best they could. On the hour mark Clydebank took the lead, from a deep cross both centre backs got caught out and the Bankies player had an easy finish from the cut back right in the centre of Rowans goal. Clark replaced K.Pardoe as the match kicked off again and it proved to be vital just minutes later Clark had Airdrie back level with a deft little back heel from a low cross ball. Clark then scored the winner after good work at the edge of the box worked the big striker a half chance and he duly found the bottom corner from just inside the area. It was almost a quick fire hat trick as a free kick from Clark fizzed past the upright. Clydebank threw men forward to find an equaliser but Airdrie’s back line held firm and a much needed 3 points on the board. A workman like performance in poor conditions, however defensively we are still giving too much away and we need to get working on that as when we go forward we can create chances and score goals, three home games all ended 3-2 this time thankfully to the home side.
