Whinhall 1-8 AS Airdrie

Airdrie made it 3 wins out of 3 in the league cup with another convincing win.

Edgar making his first start of the season was the only change to the side from last weeks win over Rossvale.

Airdrie took an instant lead after a few minutes when Smith's excellent pass picked out scott's well timed run on the right flank his cutback found Shaw who got enough on the ball to clip it in off the far post. It was 2-0 shortly after when K.pardoe was gifted the ball by the defender who was more intent on watching the striker rather than the ball as a crossball hit off him and landed nicely for Pardoe to curl home from inside the area. Whinhall's task became harder as they were reduced to ten men, Lindsay was the unfortunate victim of a wild kick. With a man advantage however airdrie couldn't find the net again as the half wore on.

Second half saw Airdrie dominate the ten men and that was evident when Edgar pressed the last man and took the ball from him before scoring the killer third goal. Moments later Kenny pardoe was gifted anothe rgoal as the young keeper fluffed a kick and Pardoe knocked home from close range. Hetherington replaced Smith at this point and Shaw began to torment the home defence with mazy run after run, sometimkes being crudely stoped in his tracks. Things got a bit hazy after this but Kenny Pardoe completed his hat trick with a fine run and shot, Shaw set up Gray for a tap in at the back post before scoring a second himself walking the ball over the line after beating a few players and rounding the keeper. Brady completed the scoring after kenny Pardoe beat three players and clipped a nice through ball for Brady to lift over the keeper for a neat finish. whinhall got a late late consolation as a player looking suspiciously offside found himself one on one with Rowan to ruin the keepers clean sheet.

Eight more goals and another match winning display from Ian Shaw should be enough to see Airdrie through with two ties remaining. Also pleasing to see the goals being shared around the team and it's a confidence building start to the new season. Victoria Park A up next on wednesday evening followed by a trip to ravenscraig on saturday week.
