Rossvale 0 AS Airdrie 7

Goals from Gray (2) Shaw (2) Neil & Kenny Pardoe with one apiece and Leishman saw a comfortable win against their third div opponents. Only some outstanding goalkeeping from vale kept the scoreline from reaching double figures.

Two changes saw Gray and N.Pardoe replace Clark and Brown from Wednesday’s victory over Victoria Park.

An even contest to start with little chances, Airdrie took the lead after ten minutes when mom Shaw went by 4 players before clipping the ball over the advancing keeper. It was 2-0 soon after when Neil Pardoe had a fine finish beating the keeper from a tight angle. Airdrie’s defence was comfortable with vale restricted to a couple of efforts from long range. Airdrie made it 3-0 when a swift break from a corner saw Shaw inside the box and although his effort was saved Gray was on hand to poke home the rebound. Vale number 8 then picked up 2 silly yellow cards to make their job even harder. Chances were missed from Lindsay, Scott and K.Pardoe before Gray rounded out a good first half with a strike from 6 yards. Ht 4-0

The second half saw more of the same with Airdrie getting plenty of time to knock the ball about against ten men. It was 5-0 after 50 when Shaw hammered home from 8 yards. Brady replaced N.Pardoe and minutes later Kenny smacked home number 6 with a half volley. Another change saw Hetherington on for K.Pardoe. Rossvale kept trying to push forward and the number 7 ran his guts out to little avail as Airdrie kept the ball at the back. With 20 to go Leishman then fired home from 20 yards although the ball took a big deflection off a vale defender. In between all this the home keeper pulled of at least half a dozen top saves especially from Lindsay, K.Pardoe and Scott. No further goals saw a final score of 7-0.

A fine away day saw Airdrie with a comfortable win. Some good play and movement but still plenty to work on. Ian Shaw scored 2 and set up another 3 with a mom performance despite receiving unwanted attention from the vale defence. Played 2 won 2 but harder matches wait down the line. We wish Rossvale all the best for their league campaign and credit to their keeper who was outstanding.
