Opening Fixtures for 2009-2010
By Chris Mac
June 17 2009
Airdrie as we know have been relegated to the Irn Bru second division and the Scottish Football League have today announced the fixtures for 2009 - 2010. Please do not print or publish the full fixture list on the website.

With home matches against Partick Thistle and Alloa in both the CIS and Alba cup Airdrie will open next seasons league campaign with a home draw against Arbroath.

Our second fixture will see us travelling north the play Brechin City.

Could we be lifting the league cup at Alloa at the end of the season?

Reading those fixtures really puts the play-off defeat into perspective. I couldn't agree more, I just can't work up any enthusiasm at the thought of the likes of Arbroath etc at home.

Not exactly filled with crowd pullers. Can't see the away stand being used at all this season.

Agreed with both of the above comments. 5 weeks on, and the embarrassment, anger, and humiliation of the Play off debacle is still as fresh and painful as it was back then. Was offered half the money for a season ticket as a fathers day present, but I told her not to bother. This is the most apathetic I've felt in over 25 years of supporting Airdrie.

So so true! that puts it all into perspective for me, surely it CANT be £15 to get in next season?

That's where a season ticket comes in handy, only £12.50 a game.

Seriously, I simply miss the football, it wouldn't matter what league we're in who we're up against it's still a day away from the house, breaks up the monotony*(spelling) of the working week and lets me get out some of my frustrations (probably adds to them as well).

It's still a social event for me more than it is for some others so roll on the first game of the season and lets get this league done and dusted.

Admirable enthusiasm Chris but I am afraid I need more than that.DBW 1878, I still feel the same over relegation. Chris I understand that you miss a Saturday.

Lets get this league done and dusted.........mmmmmmmm to win a league you must win games.to win games you need to

1 Score goals
2 stop opposition scoring (more than you)

Defence is taking shape(ish) but where are the goals coming from, GK, unclear, MIDFIELD??, up front??

Not having a pop but I can't buy into blind enthusiasm .

I know its early but this is where the club need to engage with the fans. Its no good charging what i think they will charge, leaving it till last minute to sign what's left and then have a go at fans for not turning up.

This league will not attract fans back on its own so, in my opinion, the club must start trying. The PR is non-existant. I know JB will not comment on rumour/speculation but surely, the club can do more to try and encourage fans to the first game of the season.

We may be staying full time and installed as favourites but I cannot transfer that outlook to the pitch..........where will the gaols come from, where will the cover come from (injury/suspension) Teams all around us are signing players who know this league and thus far we have re-signed the same players who got us relegated

I hope I am proved wrong but this wll not be as easy as some seem to think

I'm afraid even £12.50 is too much to pay to watch a weaker side than the pile of steaming horse manure we were forced to endure last season, playing opponents a division below what we played last year. Have the gate prices been announced or are they going up again?

Eh sorry I cant afford £225 lump sum! So hey to hell with me and other who would go then we have to fork out a silly £15, pathetic.

£10 max would be a decent price to watch the dross KB will serve up.

Ah - the memories... 1987 - the last year I lived in Airdrie. It's March - or thereabouts - and Airdrie are at home to East Fife needing a victory to stay in the hunt for promotion. But they manage only a draw,0-0, as John Flood has a last minute effort touched round the post. Vinnie Moore nearly gets sent off earlier in the game for a fierce "tackle", John Martin's still in goal, Brian Mackeown plays on with a busted nose, another of our players (can't quite remember who) ends up in hospital after being poleaxed by a Fifer, and we've got Dave MacKinnon playing for us!!
And the Tiser moans "here we go again" as it looks forward to our next match - against Dumbarton.
Plus ca change...

Had to pinch myself that I wasn't on an OF site here after reading all this drivel. We seem to be adopting this aloof attitude that we're better than everyone else in our Div & how dare we lover ourselves to watch the likes of Alloa, Arbroath etc. We're here because we deserve to be. If KB drops the negative attitute that haunted us last season - which I think he will - then we will gain promotion & like Andy Waites offer to Kenny, i'll apologise to Andy's face if we don't.

And if they do manage it i hope they have miner's hats with a torch on them for the evening games as Scottish Power switched them off yesterday.(Sm13)
