Blochairn Star 2-1 AS Airdrie
5/5/2009
Blochairn took all 3 points in a game that the visitors really should have put to bed, Changes from saturday saw th defence all but completely change (again) Cooper the only survivor from Saturday, Leishman, S.Graham & Stewart replacing N.Pardoe, Slevin & Brown respectively, Capaldi came back in for R.Graham on the left and the rest was as you were.
The game started with the home side having a huge gusting wind at there back and the driving rain wasn't much help either but Airdrie were happy to hit on the counter, Gray & Brady doing fine jobs up front. It was from one of ther forays that led to a corner which gave Airdrie the lead, Lindsay's pinpoint cross met again by Cooper for a carbon copy of Saturdays opener, back across the keeper with the looping header. Rowan was relatively untested and the half ended 1-0.
Airdrie began the second half with high hopes with the wind at there back firing in a couple of long range efforts just to test the home keeper but as can happen the weather decided to calm down to a gentle breeze, which made for a more open game and both sides started to knock the ball around. Blochairns equaliser when it came was rather fortuneate a hopefull ball in to the box took a couple of deflections and crept past Rowan. Airdrie continued to hit on the counter and should have been ahead again on a few occasions, this should have been made the easier as Blochairn were reduced to 10 men, what for I have no idea, However Blochairn strung together a neat passing move which resulted on a one on one with Rowan, who tried to close the ball down but the striker got his shot off early to give his side a 2-1 lead. Last 15 minutes was all Airdrie, again a goal should have been forthcoming from the numerous chances created. The final chance fell to Capaldi who really should have done better with a one on one with the keeper.
A disappointing result but a great performance, we must be more ruthless in front of goal, a strange feeling of our season only just feels like it's getting started but here we are in May with just 3 games to play, but plenty positive signs to carry forward.
