Airdrie 1 vs 0 Ross County

Airdrie pulled four points clear of play off hopefulls Clyde as Kenny Black's team won 1-0 at home to Ross County, a 65th minute goal sealed the points and a better than average chance of securing a play off spot.

What a difference a week makes, knowing that we have not beaten Ross County this season I expected this report to say "Airdrie lose but so had Clyde" and I'm more than happy for that not to be the case.

Kenny Black chnged the team yesterday, Paul Lovering played at left back allowing Willie McLachlin to go back to his preferred right side. David Nixon dropped to the bench and Marc Smyth played in the center of defence. His final change Kevin McDonald replaced the injured Simon Lynch which allowed John Baird to play up front.

After five minutes the Airdrie fans around about me were distracted by the news that Queen of the South were already 1-0 up against Clyde. The match in front of us had started pretty even, with both sides probing the defense trying to find a way through.

It was Ross County who came closest in the first half County's Andy Dowie headed against the crossbar and from where I was sitting it looked like the ball went out for what seemed to be a County corner, referee Conroy gave us a goal kick and the game carried on. I didn't understand why the County players were aggrivated so badly by the decision. At half time speaking to other Airdrie fans who were nearer the play, it seems that an Airdrie player punched the ball out of play and County should have had a penalty and Airdrie should have been down to ten men.

For a change Airdrie get the rub of the green, it doesn't happen very often!

It was Stephen McKenna who gave Airdrie the points in the second half, Paul Di-Giacomo sent over a cross, that loked to be going to long, but Darren Smith rose like a Salmon to head the ball in to the path of McKenna, his powerful shot sealed the match and three needed points for the Diamonds.

Leaving us with everything to play for.
