By Stomp Admin April 20 2009 Airdrie supporters trust hosts the finals of the of the Schools Cup at New Broomfield, the game kicks of at 7pm on Thursday 23rd and entry to the game costs £2 for adults and £1 for kids, everyone is welcome.
If you want to see the boys give their all for their respective teams the gates open at 6:30pm.
The Coatbridge teams booked their place at New Broomfield after emerging victorious from their semi-final ties last Thursday night.
Reigning champions St Andrew’s secured their spot with a late 2-1 win over St Margaret’s High of Airdrie.
And a 3-1 penalty shoot-out success over Airdrie Academy was enough to earn St Ambrose High a chance of revenge against their neighbours on Friday, April 24.
as a parent of one of the st ambrose players i would like to thank airdrie and the supporters trust for making such a good job of organising this event.the whole night was brilliant from start to finish and its a day my son and his mates will never forget,so in this day and age when football gets a bad press its refreshing to know that airdrie have given 30 young footballers a memory which will last forever.once again thanks to everyone at airdrie united for a great night,
I can only re-iterate with the above post. Although it was the smallest crowd we've had at a Schools Cup Final it's probably been the best game that we've staged. It was end to end stuff, with both sides playing to win and the lead changing hands three times before St. Ambrose struck a deserved winner in injury time. The game was a real credit to the boys who played last night.
Thanks are due to the owners, Alistair and the Stadium staff, for staging the final, ensuring that the night ran so smoothly and for making the night a great experience for the boys. Thanks are also due to Airdrie United, who were well represented last night, Ann Marie, Kenny and four of the players all turned up to add their support to the tournament.
One other thing worth mentioning was a conversation which took place between a couple of boys coming in from the warm up when one of them pointed out that "it was better Fir Park". Praise indeed!
Another enjoyable School's Cup Final, well done to all on the Trust Board and to the Club for their part in that.
Well done also to all the boys from St Ambrose HS and St Andrew's HS for playing their hearts out last night. On balance, I think the better team won on the night but you can't fault the St Andrew's lads for their commitment and the sporting way they took their defeat, disappointed as they were.
