Diamonds bottle crashes in another must win game

Airdrie lost 3-0 to relegation rivals Clyde, goals from Waddell (5) and a double Ruari MacLennan (61, 74) have left the Diamonds only one point above yesterdays rivals and the relegation place and the fans are feeling hurt and let down

Airdrie fans turn out for the big day and even though Clyde had raised the prices by £2, our away support showed how big an occasion yesterday's match should have been. It could have been a building block for survival instead it left fans feeling like we are relegation certainties.

In recent weeks Kenny Black has been saying all the right things, "we're looking at eighth place not a playoffs" and so on, well I don't think your players were buying that yesterday Kenny, but my question is, why was Baird playing a defensive mid-field role instead of attacking Clyde from the start?

Always trying to put a positive spin on games, sometimes you just have to admit that a match was a complete and utter disaster and yesterdays game from start to finish (Although I didn't see the finish) was.

The only positive was Baird and as a mate of mine said yesterday, if that's the type of player you can find in the third division can we have a team of them instead of the heartless bunch that play around him!

The match: Clyde opened the scoring after five minutes with Ricky Waddell converting Gregory Tade's cutback. Tade seemed to skip by three Airdrie challenges (I would say tackles but there wasn't a real one) before firing the ball along the goal mouth for Ricky Waddell to slide in and open the scoring.

The first half turned in to a battle with Clyde dominating, every first, second, third and fourth ball, leaving Airdrie to play on scraps. Both teams had a couple of goal mouth scrambles but nothing came of them for either side.

The second half started promisingly, we actually had some shots on goal and Airdrie's only player Baird was unlucky to see a shot from just outside the penalty box tipped on to the up right by Hutton.

The rest of the match is a blur, Clyde finished the game as a compeition in a 15 minute period, substitute Ruari MacLennan scored Clydes second after Robbie Winters and Willie McLaren combined to leave him in space. Robertson then gifted McLennan Clydes third by what can only be discribed as "pissing about with the ball" on the Airdrie goal line.

That was the end of the game for me and if anyone wants to fill in the gap from 74 -> 90 minutes you can.

See you all on Sat for the Ross COunty game!

Another disgraceful gutless "performance".TBH I wasn't really surprised at the result,as we've seen it so many times before.(Sm133)

Get 2000 punters to buy season tickets for next season and JB will build a team to match your ambitions.

Simples!

Not with the current manager he won't. It's the old chicken and egg situation. Get the team playing attractive, attacking football, and winning games and the crowds will increase. By how much? Sadly, I don't think the Airdrie public is really bothered whether the town has a senior football team or not. No matter how good a team we have I doubt if the home support will ever be over 2000.
At the moment we have a team playing negative, slow, boring football and not gettng results, and therefore we are left with the die hards.

Building a team capable of beating Clyde should take a lot less than the support of 2000 season ticket holders.
