Looking at the league table it's going to be difficult to progress much further than a play off spot in the Irn Bru First division, Ross County have only played 27 games, Dunfermline have played 26 games, so assuming both teams win their games in hand then we are looking at catching QotS who are four points above us, not impossible but securing a play off spot may be all we can expect.
There wasn’t much to write home about during the first half of yesterday's match it was the usual tactical battle we have seen all season. Kenny Black had chosen to start with
Robertson
Smyth, Donnelly, Nixon, McLachlan
Smith, McLaughlin, McKenna, McDougal
Di-Giacomo, Baird
But he was forced to make changes when Di-Giacomo pulled up injured after 18 minutes, Lynch replaced him up front. For the next five or ten minutes Airdrie looked disjointed, I feel Di-Giacomo brings experience and leadership to a match and I think that is missed when he doesn't play, Lynch will for the next few weeks have to add that to his game as he's probably our most experienced attacker.
The first half ended with probably only one shot on goal for both sides.
The second half burst in to life after only five minutes, a corner to Airdrie, one of maybe three corners in quick succession to the Diamonds, saw Marc Smith fire through the pack to open the scoring for his second of the season.
Queen of the South attacked from the kick off and won themselves a corner, Airdrie finally cleared our lines after a goal mouth scramble.
Eight minutes later it was Scott McLaughlin who secured the points at home. McLaughlin hit a curling shot that gave Robinson in the QotS goal no chance.
Airdrie almost had three when a strike from outside the box spun off a QotS defended and spun towards the far post.
The remainder of the game was a battle for dominance, QotS had a lot of the play but were toothless in front of goal and the Airdrie defence mopped up all the chances.
The finished Airdrie 2 Vs 0 Queen of the South.
