By Stomp Admin March 15 2009 I am writing to confirm details of the forthcoming Airdrie, Coatbridge & District schools football tournament and I'm pleased to report that eight Secondary Schools will once again take part. Armadale Academy have agreed to take the place vacated by Rosehall High.
The format will follow along similar lines to those
of previous tournaments and the names of Airdrie Academy, Armadale Academy,
Caldervale, Chryston, Coatbridge High, St Ambrose, St Andrews and St Margarets
will be entered into a draw which will take place shortly.
The first round will be held at 10am on Thursday 26th March at Espieside Parks, Drumpellier,
Coatbridge. There will be two sections of
four teams who will play each other once, giving a total of three games. These
will be twenty minutes each way and the winners and runners up of each section
will go forward into the semi final.
The semi-final will be held at 6.30pm on Thursday 2nd April at Craignuek Parks,
Airdrie and will be a play off between the
winners of each section and the runners up of the opposing section. These games
will be 30 minutes each way and in the event of a draw, penalty kicks will
decide the winners.
The final will be held at 7.00pm on Thursday 23rd April at the Excelisior Stadium, home of Airdrie
United Football Club. Similarly, 30 minutes
each way and in the event of a draw, penalty kicks will decide the
winner.
The games are eleven a side, with rolling substitutes
allowed and is open to first and second year pupils only. If you require
clarification or any further information please get back to me.
A wee bit late with an update on the Schools Cup Games last Thursday but the outcome was that in Section 1, St Ambrose were clear leaders, winning all their games, while St Margaret's came second ahead of Armadale Academy and Coatbridge High.
In Section 2, St Andrews came top, winning all their games, followed by Airdrie Academy, Chryston High and Caldervale High.
The two semi final games are: -
St Ambrose v Airdrie Academy
St Andrews v St Margaret's.
If anyone would like to support the schools, the games will be played at Craignuek Parks this Thursday 2nd April, kick off at 6.30pm.
As NLC now has another ex-Diamond as one of our SFA football development team (i.e. Andy Smith) would you like me to approach him to see if he or other development officers would attend the remaining games?
Andy was at the games last week Diamond Inca. He stayed till the bitter end (except during the hailstorm where he was seen running to the changing rooms for shelter!) and done the rounds of all the schools while he was there.
A quick update on the scores from tonights semi final games.
St. Ambrose 1 - 1 Airdrie Academy. ( St. Ambrose won 4-2 on penalties)
St. Andrews 2 - 1 St. Margaret's
Which means it's a repeat of last year's final, St. Ambrose v St. Andrews, which will be played at the stadium on Thursday 23rd April with a 7pm kick-off.
Thanks go to Michael Brown & Mattie Hazley who were present tonight representing the club and also to Airdrie Academy & Gordon McKennan who provided the nets for tonight's games.
thanks to all at airdrie for making a school boys cup final feel like a european final,it is something that the players of st ambrose and st andrews will not forget.
