AS Airdrie 4-1 Greenbank United

AS Airdrie 4 Greenbank 1

Airdrie remain unbeaten in the league with an unconvincing performance. Three goals from Ian Shaw and one from Kenny Pardoe sealed the win.

Two changes saw Clark and Stewart replace the absent Cooper and
Burton from the side that won two weeks ago.

Airdrie started well for the first 15 minutes and took an early lead, a fine pass and move involving Lindsay, Shaw and Kenny Pardoe with the finish. However the next 25 saw Greenbank have most of the play with Airdrie looking vulnerable from long throws and set pieces. An equaliser came on 25 minutes when a long throw was poorly defended and the Greenbank player had an easy header from 6 yards. However Airdrie bounced back and went in front just before half time, a free kick from Kenny found Shaw at the back post and he bundled the ball over the line. Half Time 2-1

No changes at the break, the second half started with the away team on top however from a goal kick Kenny should have made it 3-1, then Lindsay forced the keeper into a save. 2 changes saw Ross Graham and Kenny Pardoe replaced by Brown and Gray. Greenbank still had most of the play with Airdrie defending too deep but on the break chances were being created with Shaw causing the away defence all sorts of problems. With 20 to go Shaw scored his second with a fine run and shot into the bottom corner. Airdrie made their last change with Scott on for Lindsay. 5 minutes later Shaw got his third when good play in the middle released Gray who clipped the ball to Shaw who ran on and tapped in for his hat trick. Full Time 4-1

On chances made Airdrie deserved the win but on the balance of play Greenbank will maybe feel they deserved better. A ragged Airdrie performance but three points at the end of the day. Ian Shaw was a deserved mom especially with his display in the second half
