AS Airdrie 3-1 Ravenscraig

Airdrie advanced to the last 16 of the league cup, Two goals from Scott Lindsay and a goal from Ian Shaw coupled with the 3-3 draw in tonight's other game see's the Holders through to the knockout stages

Airdrie had all the early play in this encounter and should have been 4 or 5 to the good by half time! Kenny Pardoe’s shot was cleared off the line after a goalmouth scramble and he was again denied a few minutes later when the post came to Ravenscraig’s rescue. Shaw’s trickery was causing havoc with the visitor’s defence and twice he flashed the ball across the face of the goal with no takers on either occasion. Neil Pardoe looked to have found the answer when he cut in from the left through the static defence but blazed over from 8 yards. Ravenscraig rarely threatened and with the game cut to 80 minutes due to bad light half time was quickly upon us.

 

The opener finally came 5 minutes into the second half Scott Lindsay received the ball on the edge of the box and made himself some space to ping a cracking shot into the top corner much to everyone’s relief. Torrens replaced Scott shortly after and he was involved in the play for the 2nd goal, again it was Lindsay providing the finish with another rasping drive into the bottom left corner. Airdrie could afford to rest cooper with Burton stepping into the back three. Ravenscraig were reduced to ten men after Torrens broke clear, the last man hauling him down as he raced through on goal. Number three came shortly after as good work from Morrison and Neil Pardoe created a chance down the left, Ravenscraig seemed to have cleared the danger but Shaw was on hand to control the loose ball and slip it under the keeper. Ferguson replaced K.Pardoe for the last 10 minutes but no further goals from the home side. Ravenscraig did manage a late late goal when Torrens failed to clear inside the box the grateful visitor was able to steer the ball past Rowan with virtually the last kick of the ball.
