Berwick Rangers Vs Airdrie
By Stomp Admin July 11 2008
Well we’re back, the summer break is over and it’s time to have a first look at our team in action. The players have been back in training for two weeks and most of that will have been spent getting the players fitness up, I’m sure like every other sport the players can’t wait for a competitive game and that’s the way I feel just now.

So the Airdrie team so far:-

Robertson, Hollis

Smith, Smyth, McKenna, Donnelly, Lovering

Cardle, MacDonald, McDougall

Noble, Di-Giacomo, Gillie, Watt

Now before any smart arses comment, I’m not suggesting we are going to have fourteen players on the pitch at the same time.

Without knowing who we have on Trial or if we have any injuries I would suggest tomorrows starting eleven will be.

Robertson

Smith, Smyth, Donnelly, Lovering

Cardle, MacDonald, McKenna, McDougall

Noble, Di-Giacomo

I’m hoping we have a left back and a couple of central midfielders on show tomorrow and since I won’t be there due to work and family matters, some updates and a report would be most welcome.

if they place like today in Div expect to get humped every week......

yet again the defence was hopeless, Donnelly never got a game, up from Noble didn't take his tracky off; but looked like he was limping from carrying all the water bottles...;Di-G looks like he'll be adopting the AR role from last season, ie up fron himself; still have to wonder what Gillies is there for

Spanish trialist boy had to be stretchered off....

Oh for heaven's sake, it was a pre-season friendly, not the Scottish Cup Final.

wasnt at the game for famil reasons, but everbody calm down, its about fitness and trying out a few new ideas, we go beat so what, as long as we turn up from the 1st day of the season thats what matters

defence looked inept, big centre trialist done alright for a bit, midfield failed to support the front sat back far too much and what i seen of the trialist carried off we arent missing much, but i do hope he is ok took a bad tackle not the only one of the game berwick could have had a few sending off.
Di Giacomo looks a good prospect linked well with noble then Watt.
Reserve judgement on Robertson looked a wee bit sluggish, needs to work on fitness perhaps, hope lovering was a run out and not a permanent fixture in the defence otherwise watch the goals come down that wing as did Berwicks fourth

And once again, I agree with jack d. This was the first friendly game of the season, therefore, it's only to be expected that players wouldn't be at their best just yet. AND, it was also a way of letting Kenny watch the trialists on a really competetive basis for the first time.

What happened to my call for "positivity, not negativity" for this season? Let's get behind Kenny and the guys, instead of getting on their backs.

COME ON THE DIAMONDS!!

Hot at the game so can't comment on specifics, but almost everyone seems to be over the top. It was only the first ore-season game so there's no doubt a lot can't be read into it. However, we Were playing a third division team who may have had a lot of trialists as well, whereas from the team line up we only had 3, so I think we certainly dont have any reasons to be optimistic. We'll no doubt get a better idea over the next week.

it was berwicks first of the season also, and they had a few trialists as well,
was being critical was only telling it as i saw it.
was speaking to a Berwick supporter on the way out and he thought airdrie dominated - so its all about opinions

Has anyone been able to pick up who the trialists were?

friendly's do mean nothin for example rangers beat chelsea in a friendly last year , doesnt mean they are a better team and although it wasnt the start we wanted lets face it its not the end of the world. its not like the season starts next week.

Wasn't to cocerned with this result, I mean we have three more friendlies in the next week so it will be interesting to see if Kenny has a pile of trialists waiting in the wings.

Maybe the result is not cocerning. But What is concerning to me is the lack of trialists!

We hear all the arguements about not signing anyone until KB has viewed them in friendly games - yet by all accounts we only fileld 3 trialists!

Does this mean that Smith and Lovering are the 1st choice full-backs for this seson - I severely hope not!!!

However, we have another friendly tonight, one on Wed another on Sat so maybe just maybe he wants to see trialists in a real situation rather than have 8 trialist at the sode of the pitch and wanting to give them all a game.

They may also have a suprise they want to keep up their sleeve......... No I'm not hinting just trying to see positives instead of negatives.

COME ON THE DIAMONDS!!

12 days to 1st competative match, whan will they be at, or near, thier best? As for trialists, seemingly there were only two?

Criticism ( and criticism of criticism lol) aside. We should be a little further down the line than we are at the moment. Getting beat, conceding 4 goals in the prcess, by a 3rd division team, friendly or not isnt a good sign is it?

No-one cshould be blamed for being concerned, after all you can only base your opinion on what you think will happen on what has happened before.

I'll remain upbeat about this season but i tell you what, i'm concerned.
