AS Airdrie 1-3 Tradeteam
Airdrie lost the Tommy Marshall trophy Final to a hard working Tradeteam. Early goals in each half and a killer third in the closing minutes saw Tradeteam become the first 3rd division side to win a cup in the leagues history.
Airdrie didn’t start well and Tradeteam seized the initiative a deep cross into the Airdrie box wasn’t properly cleared and hesitancy let the Tradeteam striker in and he fired in at a tight angle. Airdrie worked themselves back into the match and deservedly equalized midway through the half, Capaldi scoring from close range after a set piece. As the half ended it was anybody’s game however Tradeteam again took the imitative as Airdrie again gave away possession, Rowan tried to force the striker wide but again he managed to squeeze the ball home from close range. Airdrie sent on Grant for S.Graham then later in the half Capaldi suffered a knock and was replaced by Morrison. Airdrie had chances to get the second equalizer, Edgar’s snap shot was turned round the post by the keeper and Grant broke clear but was stopped before he could get a shot away. K.Pardoe replaced R.Graham with 15 minutes to go however it was Tradeteam who wrapped up the game as Airdrie pushed forward, Rowan was left as sweeper on a few occasions and as the keeper came out to clear a through ball at the strikers feet the clearance fell kindly for Tradteam and the wide man stroked the ball goalwards with Rowan stranded to take the match and the trophy 3-1.
A hard one to take, as we played nowhere near as well as we can yet still managed to stay with Tradeteam who looked that bit sharper on the day. No doubts the heavy schedule played it’s part and with one final league game to go and a chance to finish runners up we can look back on a great season overall.
MOM Andy Edgar – worked tirelessly till the end a credit to the team.
