Scotsman 1-3 AS Airdrie

Scotsman 1-3 AS Airdrie

Airdrie made two changes from the previous week Clark(injured) and Kenny Pardoe(work) were replaced by Gray & Burton.

Rowan

Stewart Cooper Burton S.Graham

N.Pardoe Smith Edgar R.Graham

Gray Grant

Airdrie started really well and makeshift striker Grant was making some excellent runs and really getting up to support Gray, there was lots of joy down Airdrie's right with Stewart and Neil pardoe afforded lots of time and space on the ball. Scotsman however kept possesion well and always looked for short passes across the back and through to midfield, they also have two decent strikers who may not have pace but have plenty power and height, they were well handled by Burton & Cooper the latter really coming on to a game at this crucial stage of the season. Cooper got the opening goal after a set piece broke down and was only partially cleared allowing Cooper to turn 15 yards out and rifle the ball into the top corner. Gray made it two soon after,as he so often does broke through the opostion defence with pace and directness before rounding the keeper and tapping into the empty net. Airdrie looking in control although a goal for Scotsman would put a different look on things but Airdrie made it to half time intact.

More of the same was the half time chat and the boys didn't dissapoint Grant and Gray worked there socks off midfield closed everything down and the back four the base from which it all starts Rowan with bread & butter stops to make. Airdrie pressed home the advantage with a third, Gray retained possesion midway in the Scotsmans half but instead of a pass back he knocked a clever backheel into Neil Pardoe's path and his cross looking for Grant fell for Edgar who had made a late charge from midfield and he carried on into the box and slotted past the keeper. MacFarlane replaced R.Graham with 20 to go and Airdrie were also looking to introduce Capaldi back to the action after a lengthy lay off through injury however that was knocked on the head when the Scotsman got a goals back Rowan and Burton could not get out of each others way as they attempted to reach a throughball and despite there best efforts to retreive the situation the Scotsman striker managed to prod the ball over the line. Airdrie should have regained the three goal advantage when Gray broke down the right channel and surged past the defence and into the box, as the keeper closed him down Gray managed to get his cross off before being clattered by the keeper, Neil Grant looked to have the simplest of headers under the bar before he was bargged over from behind. Stewart confidentlly stepped up to take the kick but the keeper dived low to his left to make the stop. Airdrie threw on Capaldi for Grant with 8 minutes left a well earned rest for Grant. Scotsman couldn't rally late on and Brown replaced Gray for the final few seconds. A very good win and a very good game to watch hardly any long high aimless balls from either side and both teams always looking to pass. Extremely difficult to choose a MOM today the usuall suspects all staking a claim as there level of performance hasn't dropped over the last few weeks but after much thought I'm going to give it to an unsung member of the squad Scott Graham right mid? right back? centre half? left back? doesn't matter you always get a shift from the reliable treasurer!!

League Cup Final next week and my most difficult selection in 4 years, hopefully the disapointed lads ,whomever they are, can contribute from the sides and make an impact if called upon as I know they can and will. last word from me is enjoy the day I was lucky enough to win one along with a couple of the boys in the team and would love to see the rest of you experience that as well so good luck.
