Greenbank United 3-3 AS Airdrie
Greenbank 3 AS Airdrie 3

a combination of luck, missed opportunities and bad defending saw airdrie drop valuable league points at muirend.

with capaldi, smith, murray and morrison injured and stewart a late call off due to work airdrie were left with 13 players including myself and the manager as the replacements.

airdrie got of to a great start when gray hammered home in the first minute.it should have been 2 moments later but gray,s cutback that hit the post, defender and the back of the net and over the line by a yard wasn,t given by the ref.gray could have had 3 or 4 by half time with 2 good chances passed up.greenbank drew level through a speculative effort from dale that saw rowan completely miss the ball altogether by a combination of the sun and a strong wind.the home side then went 2-1 up when neil pardoe failed to track his man and the shot was slammed by rowan.shortly afterward it was 3-1.a terrible goal to lose and the blame shared equally by rowan, cooper and burton who all could have cleared the danger.airdrie hit back almost immediately but kenny pardoe penalty was easily saved.however within a minute fine play by kenny down the left saw his cross headered into the net from an unmarked gray.3-2 at the half with macfarlane replacing burton just before half time

second half saw airdrie start the brighter and gray was looking dangerous anytime he received the ball.with the defence looking stronger airdrie pushed on for the equaliser and kenny put in 2 or 3 terrific crosses that should have been better rewarded.after 65 minutes airdrie drew level when fine play down the right saw kenny clear and he rifled the ball into the bottom corner.minutes later gray should have given airdrie the lead when through on goal but as he rounded the keeper he fired wide.greenbank were pushing forward as well and the game stretched out and rowan had to look lively in clearing his box.airdrie had 3 good oportunities on the break but a poor final ball from edgar, clark and grant saw the chances passed up.gray had airdrie,s last chance but by this time he was shattered and fired weakly at the keeper.the home team had a free kick in a dangerous area in the last minute but r graham got a fine block to clear the danger.final 3-3

airdrie should have won this game.the home team had some opportunities but the best chances fell to airdrie especially in the first half.the performance wasn,t great overall but enough was done to merit all 3 points.in terms of the league it will probably mean airdrie having to win all 9 games left to catch blochairn and tynecastle with the men from blochairn in pole position.for airdrie in all probability, while trying to win all 9 games,it looks like the cup final and the tommy marshall is where the priority should lie for the rest of the season.best players for airdrie today was r graham(my m.o.m),kenny and gray who put in a fine effort despite struggling with injury.
