SCYP 1-2 AS Airdrie

SCYP 1-2 AS Airdrie

Two Goals from Gary Capaldi see Airdrie into Tommy Marshall Trophy 2nd Round.

Injuries mounting up saw Airdrie's squad stretched to the limit, a whole back three missing in Burton,Cooper & Murray. Morisson also missed out through work. Clark stepped into the back three to replace Burton & Gray was restored up front with Neil Grant taking a seat on the bench after a slight knock last week in two changes to last weeks line up.

Airdrie started brightly on the astrograss surface nice tidy passing was the order of the day.South camlachie had plenty pace and energy but the new back three dealt well with it in the opening exchanges. Airdrie took the lead midway through the half( I'm sure i will be filled in but I cant seem to remember the build up) however the ball found it's way to Capaldi who thumped the ball past the keeper form 8 yards out 1-0 Airdrie. That lead should have been doubled soon after as Kenny Pardoe played a holywood pass in for Gray who snatched at the chance and put it wide. Ross graham then stroked a 60 yard pass forward perfectly for Capaldi but his effort was off target. Capaldi and Gray were causing problems for SCYP with there movement and unsettled the defence who gave them an opening but they failed to capatilise and the chance was gone. gray again had a wee sniff of goal but a superb block tackle from the big no 2 saw the ball out for a corner.

Second half SCYP made a change and the new introduction made a good start to the game pressing Airdrie back deep into there own half but we were always dangerous on the counter. Nieve defending cost SCYP dearly as Gray collected a long Goal kick in acres of space he drew the keeper before cutting the ball back for Capaldi who settled himself and stroked it past the helpless keeper. Credit to south Camlachie as they kept on battling and there persistence paid of when Ross Graham hung a leg out and striker tumbled over it for a spot Kick which was tucked away well by the Half time sub. Airdrie are an experinced side now though and that saw them through the remainder of the game with Rowan not tested, Grant had replaced S.Graham with around 20 minutes to go and MacFarlane replaced kenny Pardoe with 3 minutes to go. Inbetween there was little clear cut chances for either side and good result get's Airdrie back on track for the run in.

Hopefully we get our injuries cleared up as we will be missing key players over the next few weeks. Today though fine games for Ross Graham( pen aside) and Andy Clark at the back, solid midfield and good movement up top, Gary Capaldi picks up the MOM award for his two goals but there were plenty of good performances as mentioned all over the park.
