Murray interview while at Reading
By Pete
July 16 2004
BCFC Online recently interviewed to ex Bristol City winger Scott Murray. He spoke about his time at city and how he has settled in a Reading.

What was it like leaving Bristol City as you had been at the club for six seasons and you seemed to be a very popular member of the team?

It was a very hard choice but with Reading being 1 hour away from Bristol and being in the 1st Division it was too good a chance to turn them down.

What was the best part of your career at Bristol City?

  • Playing at Wembley
  • Scoring two against Cardiff a nd the celebration
  • LDV Final
  • My first hat trick

Sorry to ask this, but what was the worst part of your career at city?

  • Losing to Cardiff in the Play Offs
  • Losing to Stoke at Wembley

What was the best goal you scored while at city?

I liked my goals against Wycombe (LDV), away to Luton after Wembley and Oldham at home.

Do you still keep an eye on the city results?

Yes and I still keep in touch with them. I phone Danny Wilson on the Friday before Notts County to wish the lads all the best.

If Roman Abramovich took over city tomorrow and he offered Reading £15million and they accepted would you come back?

Depends on the wages! Only Joking, of cause I would.

What ground is better a traditional football ground in Ashton Gate or a brand new stadium like the Madejski?

I think every player prefers to play in a new stadium and hopefully City will be in one soon

Do the Reading fans sing a song for you yet?

I think they have taken the "Super Scott Song" from the city fans

Where do you feel city will finish in the league this season?

I think the playe rs Danny has brought in have made the team stronger. So ill go for top 2.

Have you settled down into the Reading team yet?

The lads have been superb and made me feel right at home.

Reading have recently signed ex city striker Shaun Goater you were only at a club for a few months together but was it good to be reunited?

Yes. We have been like brothers since he came and he's my new room mate.

Where do you feel Reading will finish this season?

Same as City hopefully (top 2), if not then the Play Offs

Cardiff City FC were strongly linked with you during your time at here. City fans obviously have a strong rivalry with the club. If Reading had not come in for you and Cardiff had would you have considered a move to them knowing that it would upset nearly all city fans?

No. Not just because of that but also I would never of been accepted by their fans so I would probably of stayed.

Reading are not that much bigger than city. Do you think that City could ever emulate there success?

Without a shadow of a doubt. Bristol should have a team in the 1st division at least.

Can you name your Bristol XI from your time at city. You can have the no. 7 shirt and play in the team. You can choose whatever formation you like?

Formation = 4-4-2

Welch

Carey

Taylor

Coles

Brennan

Murray

Doherty

Tinnion

Bell

Thorpe

Peacock

Has city progressed during your time here? When you came we were in division two and seven years later we are still in division two!

Yes. I think the academy has produced some excellent young players and with players like Tins they should become better and better

Would you consider a job in coaching after football and if do would you return to Bristol City in some capacity if the opportunity arose?

Yes. I am going to start taking my badges and when Tins becomes manager ill give him a call.

Scott Murray added

"I would just like to thank all city fans for the good luck messages and hopefully ill be down soon to cheer the lads on!!!"

I would personally like to thank Scott for partaking in this interview and would like to wish him all the luck in the future.
