With the end of the season getting closer and closer, every game increases in importance, as the prospect of a second successive relegation looms large on the RMI horizon.
Andy Nelson’s side were given a rude awakening last weekend when, despite completely dominating the first half of the game, RMI fell to a 3-1 home defeat to Moor Green, who turned the game around in the second half after spending the first forty four minutes camped in their own penalty area.
While RMI were throwing away their good position, Saturday’s opponents Worksop were doing their best to do a similar job, taking the lead at relegation rivals Hednesford, only for their hosts to score two second half goals to take the points.
Tuesday night saw the Tigers face another of their bottom four rivals, this time being denied a vital victory by a late Vauxhall Motors penalty which leaves the bottom three sides (Worksop, RMI & Hednesford) all on thirty points, while Vauxhall are precariously placed just two points further ahead, although all of the other sides have at least one game in hand on RMI, a feature which could may be RMI’s downfall come the end of the season.
Worksop and RMI last met on the eve of Bonfire Night last November, when one of RMI’s better performances of the season was cruelly denied by an excellent Worksop winner to give the Tigers all three points on that occasion.
With time running out, Saturday afternoon could prove vital in determining the history of both of these clubs, let’s just hope RMI get back on track and make sure they prevent their opponents from gaining any sort of advantage over them in the race to avoid relegation to the Northern Premier League.
