The home side started the match alot better than RMI, and took the lead after only 5 minutes when Phil Collins struck an 18 yard screamer. The goal came around when Dino Maamria conceded a free kick, which was swung in and cleared straight to Collins, who made no mistake.
Wayne Mayden had a chance to equalise after 21 minutes when his header went just past the post.
Stuart Coburn made a good save when Margate striker Leon Braithwaite struck a well timed effort.
Four minutes into the second half and RMI had their best chance and it fell to Maamria. But a good save from keeper Phillip Smith denied Maamria's close range header.
Margate put the game out of the Railwaymen's reach when Jay Saunders hit a 25 yard screamer just after the hour.
After the game Margate keeper stated that Leigh RMI are too good to go down based on their performance today.
