Heald heads for pastures new

By Matt Lawton
March 22 2011

After weeks of speculation, it can now be confirmed that veteran midfielder Andy Heald has left Leigh Genesis to join Evo-Stik League First Division North rivals Warrington Town.

After scoring once in 24 appearances for Leigh this season alongside working on the coaching staff of Alan Kershaw and previous boss Mark Maddox, Heald has decided to take a change of direction, ending his third spell with Leigh during a career that has seen him make a total of 182 appearances since making his debut in August 2001.

Heald won't be short of familiar faces at Cantilever Park where he will join former Leigh colleagues Gavin Salmon, Chris Thompson and first team coach James Standing with the best wishes of all concerned with Genesis (apart from when Warrington visit Crilly Park on Saturday 23rd April, of course!) after his years of sterling service on and off the field, including a position on the club committee that he will always be welcome to return to when his playing commitments end.

- Leigh Genesis are back in action this evening (Tuesday 22nd March) when Skelmersdale United are the visitors to Crilly Park for a 7.45pm kick off.

Heald, Andy

Think the change of scene will do him good though obviously a few own goals won't go amiss!

Just a bit! Big win for them though Curzon's result on Monday won't have done them any favours.
