Leigh Genesis 1 Chorley 2

Leigh Genesis suffered their late goal curse once again as they were denied a deserved point by a Steve Foster winning goal for local rivals Chorley with only nine minutes left to keep the visitors in the hunt for promotion.

Featuring five ex-Leigh players in the starting line up and a further two on the substitute's bench, Chorley needed a victory to keep up their hopes of a late season challenge to leaders Chester, Leigh fired an early warning shot when a Stuart Rudd free kick was kept out by Chorley goalkeeper Lloyd Rigby.

There was little that Rigby could do however to stop Leigh taking the lead on twenty six minutes when Dave Dempsey struck a ferocious free kick in to the back of the net for his first goal in Leigh colours.

Leigh's lead lasted only two minutes though when a cross in to the area caused confusion in the Leigh defence and left Adam Roscoe unchallenged to level the scores on twenty eight minutes.

Chorley controlled much of the second half but, with Leigh fans beginning to think a draw was in their grasp, had to wait until the eighty first minute when they were gifted a fortutious winning goal when Leigh goalkeeper Phil Priestley tried to stop the ball from goining out for a goal kick but in doing so juggled the ball straight in to the path of Steve Foster to slot home, blotting an otherwise outstanding performance from Priestley.

Leigh are back in action at Crilly Park this Tuesday (22nd March, 7.45pm kick off) against Skelmersdale United before making the short trip to Salford City the following Saturday (26th March, 1pm).
