By Matt Lawton July 1 2009 Although the UniBond League Division One North fixtures have yet to be confirmed for the 2009/2010 season, Leigh Genesis have discovered their first opponents in both the FA Cup and FA Trophy for the coming campaign.
First on the calendar is a short trip to neighbours and league rivals Warrington Town in an FA Cup Preliminary Round tie that is to be played at Cantilever Park on Saturday 29th August with a 3:00pm kick off.
The game sees an early opportunity for ex-Leigh performance manager James Standing to test his new side against his old club in what is set to be an intriguing encounter.
The draw has also been confirmed for the FA Trophy First Round Qualifying, which has seen Genesis handed a trip to Warwickshire to face British Gas Midlands League One outfit Atherstone Town on Saturday 17th October with a 3:00pm kick off.
Genesis are actually the only UniBond League Division One side to be exempt from the FA Trophy Preliminary Round, and as such are likely to have a free weekend in the opening weeks of the season when the league fixtures are confirmed on Wednesday 15th July.
He might as well buy a season ticket for us anyroad with the amount of scouting he'll do - we're going to play them at least 4 times next season, as it stands!
The Warrington FA Cup game will be moved to Monday 31st August if Warrington Wolves beat W*gan on 8th August as the 29th August is Challenge Cup final day.

Reading the Wire board, it seems basically their entire matchday staff are planning on going to Wembley. In fairness, I know where a lot of us would be if Ley ever got to Wembley.
