Genesis keep it safe

Leigh Genesis manager Garry Flitcroft has pulled off a huge coup by retaining impressive young goalkeeper Stephen Drench for the 2009/2010 UniBond League Division One North season.

Drench joined Leigh in late March on registration deadline day from Blue Square North side Southport, and made his debut five days later in the 2-1 win over Cammell Laird at the Leigh Sports Village Stadium.

Drench, a former England Schoolboys international goalkeeper, began his career with Blackburn Rovers before establishing himself as number one goalkeeper with Morecambe during their promotion-winning campaign to the Football League.

Drench made five appearances for Leigh last season and was hugely impressive in them all with his dominance of the penalty area and his radar-like distribution, with his signing a huge signal of intent for Leigh next season.
