Leigh Genesis vs. Prescot Cables preview

By Matt Lawton September 1 2008
Tuesday night sees Leigh Genesis make their long-awaited return to Hilton Park, and the Leythers' homecoming couldn't have come at a better time, with the fact that the opponents are local rivals Prescot Cables adding more than a little spice to the evening.

While Steve Bleasdale's side have had a mixed start to the season with Saturday's 2-1 loss at Worksop Town seeing August finished with two wins and three defeats, while rivals Prescot have endured a torrid start to the season, collecting just one point from a possible fifteen, conceding a whopping eighteen goals in the process, ensuring their position as the league's worst defensive record this season.

Former Leigh goalkeeper Tim Dittmer, released from Genesis in the summer, has made three appearances for Prescot this season but, if the rumours are to be believed, is likely to be replaced by Burscough goalkeeper Zak Hibbert as Cables look to reduce the torrent of goals that they are currently conceding.

Prescot have endured 4-0 and 6-3 thrashings against Bradford Park Avenue and Guiseley respectively, but showed a huge improvement in claiming an impressive 2-2 draw at home to Boston United on Saturday, Cables' first point of the season.

Leigh manager Steve Bleasdale has a couple of injury worries ahead of one of the most keenly-anticipated fixtures of the season, with defender Paul Booth suffering concussion in Saturday's loss at Worksop, while defender Andrew Teague and winger Jerome Watt are facing to race to be fit after sitting out Saturday's game.

Kick off is at 7:45pm at Hilton Park on Tuesday evening - local bragging rights are at stake along with a vital three UniBond Premier League points so drag as many friends along to the game as possible and make yourselves heard!

Good lad, your vocal input has been missed these last couple of games!

Back of the stand like at the Woodley game?

It is something a couple of us have been debating - the acoustics are far, far better at the back of the stand, plus there's more flag space, but you miss out on the banter with the players; maybe do it as a trial run for tonight so that we've got that extra volume?

Or we could do one half of each?

See here; I reckon first half on the top deck and see how it works out. If it doesn't improve the atmosphere then go back to the terrace for the second half, but I thought it made things a lot louder for the Blyth game last year so it's at least worth a try.
