Leigh Genesis vs. Ilkeston Town preview

By Matt Lawton August 21 2008
Victory Park hosts it's second Leigh Genesis 'home' game inside a week on Saturday afternoon when Ilkeston Town are the visitors as Steve Bleasdale's side look to secure their second victory in succession after defeating Ashton United 3-0 on Tuesday.

After a disappointing opening day defeat to Eastwood Town, Leigh returned to form in emphatic fashion on Tuesday night when, to the delight of their vociferous support, goals from Darren Mansaram, Richard Chetcuti and Bradley Maylett saw Ashton United put to the sword by three goals to nil at Victory Park.

With such an impressive victory under their belts, it is likely that there won't be any changes to the starting line up, with Jerome Watt likely to continue on the left hand side of a four man midfield, with Jerome Fitzgerald set to captain the side in his third game for the club, with midfielder Tom Field the only definite absentee as he continues to serve a suspension carried over from last season.

Visitors Ilkeston, managed by former Bolton Wanderers and Birmingham City defender David Holdsworth, brother of ex-Bolton striker Dean, have enjoyed a successful start to the season, a 1-1 home draw with Kendal Town on the opening day being followed by an impressive 2-0 win at Buxton in midweek.

The only former Leigh player involved at Ilkeston is ex-RMI midfielder Gareth Holmes, who witnessed Genesis' opening day fixture at Eastwood, Ilkeston's neighbours.

Kick off is at 3pm on Saturday, admission costing £8 for adults, £5 for concessions and under 18's, with under 9's costing just £2.

Get yourself to Chorley and recreate the positive and boisterous atmosphere that spurred the lads to victory on Tuesday evening.
