Jez aiming for title double

Jerome Fitzgerald
By Matt Lawton May 21 2008
Steve Bleasdale's lightning preparations for the upcoming UniBond Premier League campaign continued today with the signing of Jerome Fitzgerald from Blue Square North side Fleetwood, with the experienced defender immediately stating his intent of winning another UniBond Premier League championship winners medal to go alongside the one that he earned with Fleetwood only a matter of weeks ago.

Fitzgerald (pictured) made twenty eight starting appearances in Fleetwood's title-winning side of the last campaign, and with Leigh RMI a club on the up with exciting new signings and the upcoming move to the terrific Leigh Sports Village, Jez believes he has joined the right club if he is to add to his growing collection of medals.

The left sided player started his career in the same youth set up as RMI stalwart Andy Heald before spells with Darwen and a UniBond League Division One title winning campaign with Rossendale United caught the eye of Stalybridge Celtic, where he spent a successful nine month period before joining Accrington Stanley towards the end of the 2003/04 season before representing the British Universities side in South Korea in the summer of 2003, alongside then-RMI goalkeeper Craig Dootson.

Previous to playing a significant part in Fleetwood's successful bid for glory, Fitzgerald spent two seasons in the Conference with Southport, appearing om thirty three occasions within that time.

With the recent signing of ex-Northwich Victoria defender Josh Wilson, former FC United of Manchester and Southport man Alex Mortimer and the huge boost of skipper Rob Marsh-Evans extending his stay with RMI, Steve Bleasdale's defence is starting to take shape.
