Burscough vs. Leigh RMI preview

By Matt Lawton February 24 2008
This Tuesday evening brings another pressing Blue Square North encounter for Steve Bleasdale's Leigh RMI side as they make the short trip over Parbold Hill to face Lancastrian rivals Burscough at Victoria Park, a ground where RMI have run out victors once already this season.

That victory towards the end of November spelled FA Trophy progress for the Railwaymen, with Andy Heald's second half strike securing a thrilling 3-2 victory, but Tuesday evening is all about league survival as hosts Burscough, impressive 1-0 victors at leaders Kettering Town on Saturday, continue their push for the play-offs, while RMI continue to fight on in the face of their relegation problems.

RMI's defensive options have been boosted with the loan signing of nineteen year old defender Matt Lawlor from Championship side Blackpool as the youngster looks to gain further first team experience after appearing in the Blue Square Premier earlier in the season whilst on loan at Farsley Celtic, having been an unused substitute in the Seasiders' Carling Cup game with Premiership side Derby County, although existing RMI centre back Rob Marsh-Evans won't start a two match suspension received for his sending off in the recent 3-1 defeat to Gainsborough until Saturday's home game with Barrow.

As was the case in the Trophy victory at Burscough, a large and vocal travelling support is expected to make the short journey from Leigh, with the West Lancashire village easily accessible with trains direct from Wigan Wallgate and road links from the M6.
