Bolton defender flies in for Baggies talks
By Jemma Tappenden
August 9 2008
West Bromwich Albion came one step closer to signing Bolton Wanderers defender Abdoulaye Meite yesterday after the player interrupted pre season training in Greece with his fellow Bolton team mates to fly home for talks with Tony Mowbray. But the Baggies still face competition form other Premiership new boys Hull to sign him.

Albion have reportedly been interested in the Bolton defender for a number of weeks, with former Baggies boss Gary Megson insistent that the defender was going nowhere.

But with Meite facing stiff competition at Bolton from Cahill, O'Brien, Shittu and Fojut for a place in the first team, Meson has been forced to admit that the defender has requested to leave.

Hull City have already had a bid for the Ivory Coast International accepted, however Meite himself is said to prefer a move to the Hawthorns.

Megson remained defiant over the defender last night however, reiterating that the Shittu deal had only gone ahead because of his fears that Meite wanted to leave the club, and that unless the price was right he would not be going anywhere.
