Four years ago I probably would have renewed my season ticket without much due thought and consideration. That being said, four years ago I wasn't a homeowner. Even when I did become a homeowner I continued to renew. That was until the cost of living and inflation started vastly overtaking my wages.
I'm sure I'm not alone in this situation either. Football attendances have been on a general decline now for a couple of years, and I don't suppose the current financial climate will do anything to change that.
Ok, so I might well have committed the mortal sin of growing up as a Wolves fan. And being honest, the credit crunch is just part of the reason my season ticket renewal forms ended up lining the inside of my wheelie bin. The fact that the present situation at Molineux is something akin to Bedlam (and I mean Bedlam in it's historical context as a 19th Century lunatic asylum) has aided my decision somewhat. A renewal cost of £469 - and this was the 'early bird' price by the way, just seemed a little ambitious for mediocre at best Championship football.
There are also some other really heavy offenders throughout the football league when it comes to ticket pricing. An average £30 ticket gets you just 15 minutes of football/entertainment for a fiver. A ratio I'm sure no-one would be prepared to consider at the Cinema or Theatre to name just two.
But hats off to West Bromwich Albion I have to say. I was almost tempted to stick my hand in my pocket for a season ticket at the Hawthorns. Afterall, a season of Premiership football for £169 less than their lower leagued Wolverhampton counter parts is somewhat of a bargain.
