Steady on the rumour front
By Jemma Tappenden May 15 2008
West Bromwich Albion have urged their supporters to go steady on the rumour front and not become frustrated by apparent transfer gossip appearing in the press. The plea comes after news broke that an alleged attempt to sign striker Marc-Antoine Fortune was rejected. But the club remain insistant that Fortune has not been on their list of target players.

Tony Mowbray and club chairman Jeremy Peace are expected to work together on identifying transfer targets once the pair have established where they stand in relation to other rival clubs in the Premiership also wanting to sign players.

But news from the club today insists that 26 year old Fortune, currently at French club Nancy, has never been a transfer target for Albion.  News that a big for the striker has been rejected therefore seem increasingly unlikely.

Rumours surrounding the transfer activity at the Hawthorns are already rife, less than 2 weeks after the close of their promotion winning season.  Albion have already been linked with a number of players including goalkeeper Jesper Christiansen and Polish midfielder Radoslaw Majewski.

Increasing frustrations over a number of contracts still to be sorted should be put at ease over the next few weeks as current squad members return from much deserved holiday's.
