Danek and Kim to stay on at Baggies

Do-Heon Kim
By Jemma Tappenden April 22 2008
Tony Mowbray will be eager to not tempt fate about which division his side will play in next season, even if only needed one point to secure promotion looks a dead cert. Nonetheless, it is impossible for the Baggies gaffer to not at least start thinking about his squad for the 2008/09 campaign, and he revealed today that two faces that look likely to stay are onloan duo Kim and Danek.

Midfielder Kim Do-Heon and Goalkeeper Michal Danek were January aquisitions for Mowbray, brought in to enforce the promotion push.  But Mowbray has revealed that he looks set to accept offers for both players which will extend their loan periods for an additional season to see both players feature in what will most likely be a Premiership campaign.

Both players have so far struggled to establish themselves with any regular football at the Hawthorns, although Mowbray concedes that this is testiment to his strong and steady squad which has so far seen fit to complete the job.

There are other issues that Mowbray will also be keen to resolve quickly, such as those surrounding the contracts of Kevin Phillips and Zoltan Gera, who are both free to leave Albion this summer when their contracts expire.  In particular Mowbray will hope that Gera will extend his Baggies stay if their promotion hopes are successful, despite him being linked with a series of current Premiership sides including Wigan and Middlesbrough.

Contract talks with Kevin Phillips remain ongoing, but the last few months have failed to see the club and player come to an arrangement on which they can both agree, and with concerns over Phillips' fitness in relation to an old knee injury, Albion's pending promotion might just see the prolific striker move on.  Phillips wants at least an offer of two years to keep him at the Hawthorns.
