Everton face Charlton in the Carling Cup tomorrow with the management pleased with their defensive shape. But the Blues will have to improve their attack if they're to avoid a penalty shootout.

Everton face Charlton in the Carling Cup tomorrow with the management pleased with their defensive shape. But the Blues will have to improve their attack if they're to avoid a penalty shootout.
While the showing at Villa was nothing spectacular the Blues are looking more organised at the back.
After the 0-0 Alan Irvine said: “We came hoping for a very solid performance and I think that’s what we got. I don’t think we were really in a great deal of trouble at any point during the game, having said that, I don’t think we caused Villa a great deal of trouble either.”
While the Carling Cup is not vital for the Blues, it would be nice to have a good cup run. Last seasons victory at Newcastle brought confidence to the team and this year will give the opportunity for the strikers to vie for the starting places.
Hopefully a good showing can trigger Everton into picking up the form of last year.
