TOWN 1 ABERYSTWYTH TOWN 2

Amazingly,
writes Dwight Fry, Barry Town put out a near full
strength side (or ex-full strength after the Barry Town
diaspra were brought together for a mini reunion) tonight
against a very disappointing Aber. The boys played for free
after flying in from as far as Scotland (Molloy) or driving up
prior to the match from London (Akinfenwa) which is fairly
incredible seeing as most are no longer associated with the
club - apart from tonight.
Barry
were kitted out in a non-sponsored circa 1995-96 UEFA Cup
dream-team strip (left) which also made it a particularly bizarre
evening.
I like Aberystwyth a lot, I really do, but the play acting of
rolling around injured and bad sportsmanship of kicking the
ball away time and time again (unpunished by Southall) was
disheartening to see in the circumstances. It wasn't like this
throughout the whole match though, only in the last 20 minutes
when Aber visibly tired and decided to shut up shop. On this
performance by Aber, the rest of the league has really nothing
to fear.
Despite us ultimately losing 1-2 (several goal posts
AGAIN! )
it was a case of 'thank you very much for the training
session, thank you very very much' yet Aber greeted the full
time whistle like they'd won, er, something - anything!
Funnily enough, they may not yet get to keep the points, so it
was a shallow victory - and particularly sour on their behalf.
A bit disappointed they didn't bring more fans down, but I
guess the threat of us possibly not playing put many people
off and several of the coaches stayed away.
I'm being a bit harsh on Aber. It was their first time
together in a competitive match, and individually they've got
some very handy players. They've also got a bunch of whingers.
But credit Aber for travelling away from home and getting the
win.
However they got it.
