Chesterfield V Sheffield Wednesday - Preview

The Spireites are all set to take on Sheffield Wednesday in what is set to be a sell-out capacity crowd at Saltergate. This is the second time the two teams have met this year, with a 2-2 draw at Hillsborough being primarily remembered for a Sammy Clingan 25-yard screamer! Of course, the Spireites are without Clingan today as he has returned to Wolves after his loan spell with the Blues came to an end. However, fans shouldn't be too downheartened as rumour is rife that we could be seing Sammy in a blue shirt once again before the end of the season!

The other major change since the last duel between these two local rivals is the loss of tricky winger Jamal Campbell-Ryce. A replacement has yet to be found and the left hand side will be a problem area for the Spireites until it is filled - as we saw at Doncaster last week.

The team news for today is that Steve Blatherwick could return from injury to continue his partnership with Ian Evatt. Hopefully, this will help us to return to our early-season form defensively. The other change from the team that drew 0-0 at Doncaster could be the return of loanee Jordan Fowler from suspension. Fowler has not had the start hoped of him so far this month, but this big game atmosphere could bring out the best in him.

Roy McFarland has been hyped up for this game all week and the players seem no less enthusiastic over the prospect of beating our nearest and dearest at Saltergate - again!

I predict a 2-1 for the Spireites, with Tcham N'Toya scoring at least one of the goals.

The major threat from the Owls will be influential winger John-Paul McGovern. The ex-Blade put in a superb performance at Hillsborough.

This game will be by no means easy for the Spireites - Paul Sturrock has guided the Owls into 4th place in League 1. However, the loss of Kenwyne Jones has been a blow and Spireites fans feel a win is on the cards!
