Two out, one in

The Spireites have released two youngsters to enable more room for manouver in the transfer market. In addition to this, promising Australian defender Aaron Downes has agreed to sign on an initial three-month contract.
The two players released are Stephen Warne and Ben Cressey. Central midfielder Warne was entering the final twelve months of his two-year contract, but has struggled to make an impact on the first team. It is beneficial to both partys that Stephen trys his luck elsewhere.

Cressey is a left-sided defender who was signed from the youth set up on a three month deal. The idea was that Cressey could impress in pre-season and hopefully earn himself a new deal. However, Kevin Dawson's improvement coupled with the signing of Aaron Downes has meant Cressey will be unlikely to challenge for a first team place.

Both players are thought to be attracting interest from both league and non-league clubs.

The player coming into Saltergate is Australian centre-back Aaron Downes. He has agreed to sign on a three-month contract after impressing in pre-season.

Downes graduated from the highly acclaimed Australian Soccer Institute, and is trying to find an inroad to English football. He has played for both Bolton Reserves and Frickley Athletic.

The end of Downes' three-month contract will coincide with the end of Kevin Dawson's six-month deal. It looks set to be a direct duel between these two for who gets another contract extension in December. Lets hope this means Steve Blatherwick and Ian Evatt will have to keep on their toes to remain in the side.

Another positive from the release of the two ex-Spireite trainee's is that Roy McFarland may now be able to bring in his desired left winger. Hopes are high among the more optimistic fans that this may be Jamie McMaster, another Australian.
